"We inherited a rather large but gloomy kitchen when we moved to Balerno. We consulted Ian and he confirmed that the units were of good quality and could be painted successfully. He offered many different paint effects but we opted for a classic painted look using very subtle Farrow & Ball paint colours. The pressure was on as Christmas was looming and Ian had to work fast, as we were also getting joinery work done in the kitchen. Ian first of all removed all the doors for painting in his workshop and then proceeded to paint the carcasses as well as 42 door handles! . However this did not phase him and the end result exceeded our expectations. We now have a beautiful, hand painted kitchen worthy of a designer price tag but costing a mere fraction of that. We also have the option in a few years time of creating a totally different look should we wish. Ian is a friendly, open character and his workmanship is first class. "When we first moved into our house a new pale wood kitchen had already been installed. Although we liked the general layout and style of the units my husband and I would have preferred a painted country style finish. We, then, had to decide what to do - install the type of kitchen we'd always wanted (expensive and not very sensible considering the existing one was only a few years old) or have the existing one hand painted?
We knew what we wanted but were a bit dubious about painting. After a great deal of thought (and a mountain of articles/books and magazines on painted finishes) we decided to go ahead and find someone to take on the task.
I had already seen Ian's ad in a Scottish interiors magazine and got in touch with him. What a friendly man! He came to visit, we discussed exactly the look we wanted - off-white with a slightly distressed look, showed him lots of pictures (probably too many as he already knew what he was going to do!) and off he went to prepare an estimate which we accepted.
Ian carried out the work (some was done off-site) very professionally, consulting with us before each new step was carried out, completing the job in the time quoted and advising on the style of handles to be fitted.
We are delighted with the finished result - exactly what we'd had in mind. In fact, so delighted that Ian went on to paint some pieces of free standing furniture!"
