Case study: Hand painted stools

A nice little project during lockdown. These stools belong to a neighbour, she explained that she remembers sitting on these when she was a child and would love them to be restored to how she remembers them looking. They had been badly varnished at some point during the last 30 years.

When I started stripping back the finish I discovered some tiny bits of paint, I mixed up a colour to match, I decided to paint the legs and stain and varnish the seat. There was also a repair to one of the seats, I cut out the old filler then replaced it with some end grain timber then fashioned it to match the contour.

My neighbour was delighted with the result, after lockdown she’s planning on having a 50 year wedding anniversary celebration and will delight in showing off the stools. I have really enjoyed this project, and bringing a smile to someone’s face makes it all worth while.
