Close up of hand painted dresser

Heavily distressed Chalon kitchen

After alot of preparation and sanding out the original heavily distressed and painted Chalon kitchen, I have finally finished repainting it. I pretty well matched the original colours but my client didn’t want the same level of distressing. It hadn’t been touched since it was installed 25 years ago.

I’ve included some photos of the level of sanding required. The finish is a many layered process:

  • primer
  • undercoat
  • 2 coats of solid base colour
  • a dark semi transparent glaze which was rubbed back to create a wash/aged like effect

When dry a subtle white glaze was dry brushed into some of the mouldings to highlight them, then, the entire surface was given a coat of clear varnish to protect and give durability to the finish.
